| UC-7112—Storage
Expandable, Ready-to-Run, Mini Embedded Computer Ready to
Ship in May, 2006 |
UC-7112, which
is the new star of MOXA's mini embedded computer series,
will be ready to ship on May 22.

Overview
UC-7112 features dual 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports and two
RS-232/422/485 serial ports in a built-in µClinux
ARM9 box. In addition, UC-7112 provides an internal SD
socket for storage expansion. To access the slot, you
must first remove the product's outer cover, providing
better protection of your important data. By adding the
popular Secure Digital Memory Card (SD), UC-7112 can provide
2 GB or more of storage space. UC-7112 offers high performance
communication and unlimited storage in a super compact,
palm-size box. UC-7112 is the right solution for applications
that use a lot of memory, but that must be housed in a
small physical space without sacrificing performance.
Powerful
MOXA ART ARM9 32-bit RISC Processor
UC-7112 is an ARM9-based embedded computer that uses
the MOXA ART ARM9 32-bit RISC processor as the system
engine.
Unlike a general RISC processor, the MOXA ART ARM9 processor
offers superior performance for serial communication
and network processing with a CPU that runs at 192 MHz.
The
processor's built-in UARTs enable serial communication
at over 700 Kbps (maximum speed of 921.6 Kbps), and truly
fulfill the high performance communication demand of
industrial
applications.
Unlimited
Storage Expansion Capability
UC-7112 has 8 MB of NOR Flash ROM and 16 MB of SDRAM
onboard, which is enough storage capacity to store the
operating
system, device drivers, and the user's own software.
For large storage requirements, the additional internal
SD
socket provides users with flexible unlimited storage
expansion by adding the popular SD memory card to run
applications.
Open
Linux Architecture for Easy Development
The pre-installed Ready-to-Run µClinux OS, based
on the Linux kernel 2.6.9, provides an open software
operating
system for your software program development. The OS
and middleware-ready environment are built in to speed
up
embedded application development. In addition to serial
communication and a TCP/IP library, this mini size OS
kernel
also supports dynamic driver module functionality to
allow the loading and unloading of customized
driver
modules. To develop applications on UC-7112, the user
must use a standard GNU GCC compiler or MOXA Linux
Tool Chain, which is available on the software CD. This
means that software written for a desktop PC can be
easily
ported
to UC-7112.
You will not need to spend time modifying existing software
code.
Value
Added Network Services
For diversified network-centric embedded applications,
UC-7112 not only provides powerful communication capability,
but also embeds several useful network services and functions.
It includes 3 network daemons—Telnet Server, FTP
Server and Web Server, dial-in/out functions such as
PPP, PPPoE, and the firewall capability of IPTBLES/NAT.
These
common and easy-to-use services make it easy for
users to migrate industrial communication applications
to the UC-7112 embedded computer.

| Introducing
TCC-80, MOXA's Newest Serial Port Powered Media Converter,
and TCC-82, a Signal Isolator to Protect Your RS-232 Connections |
TCC-80
is a serial port powered RS-232 to RS-422/485 media converter
that can be operated without additional power input, but
comes equipped with a VDC power adapter and a USB port
power cord when needed.
TCC-80
not only offers complete signal conversion between RS-232
and RS-422/485 signals, but also provides comprehensive
protection against current overload with its built-in
15 KV ESD surge protector. In addition, TCC-80 is designed
to provide RS-485 auto data direction control, in which
the RS-485 driver is enabled automatically when the circuitry
senses the TxD output from the RS-232 signal. No programming
effort is needed to control the transmission direction
of the RS-485 signal.
TCC-82
is a 4-channel RS-232 optical isolator
that provides bi-directional serial communication with
full electrical isolation between two
RS-232 devices.
This
compact sized isolator isolates both sides of the connection
optically to provide perfect protection from lightning
surges, accidental high voltage shorts, and ground
loops.
The built-in, wide-range optocouplers can withstand
more than 4 KV rms input to output for 1 minute. By
supporting this feature, TCC-82 not only
meets the requirements for general data communications,
but also the high standard needed for industrial automation
and medical applications. Moreover, TCC-82 protects
the
RTS/CTS handshake lines on its two D-type connectors,
and supports power-over-serial, which eliminates the
need for an external power supply.

| Power
Distribution in SCADA Sub Stations |
| Objective:
Gather real-time IED data to a central station through
a reliable Ethernet network
Recommended Product(s): Industrial Ethernet Switch
(EDS-508), Serial
Device Server (NPort
5610-16)
Major Benefit: Data from all IEDs can be tracked
through a Fast Recovery Redundant Network
Background:
A local power distribution company provides electricity
to approximately 40,000 businesses and residences,
representing
approximately 80,000 people throughout Colorado's front
range. To prepare for industry deregulation, the company
is continually exploring new and unique ways to improve
service and reliability
to its customers
while keeping rates low.
In
order to provide reliable power distribution service
to
more customers while maintaining low rates, the company
has begun to expand its power distribution sub-system
network
locally. The company uses a micro SCADA system to integrate
and control power networks, substations, and secondary
substations
remotely onto one open platform. The platform uses Ethernet-based
fiber optic communication between each substation. This
micro SCADA system requires rugged Ethernet switches, which
have a higher reliability compared to commercial switches,
and multiport serial device servers, which can connect
and control all IED's (Intelligent Electrical Device)
at each
location.
Solution:
The company chose MOXA's Industrial Ethernet Switch and
NPort Device Server products because of their rugged design,
fast Redundant Ring capability, ease of use, and overall
low cost. Equipped with rugged, high-strength aluminum cases
with IP30 protection, MOXA's EDS-508 Series of products
have a high MTBF of over 260,000 hours. MOXA's unique Turbo
Ring feature provides a reliable redundant ring connection
that facilitates route recovery within 300 ms for the ultimate
in industrial communication reliability. Moreover, the easy
to use multi-function software on the NPort Device Server
makes the installation and configuration of communication
devices to IEDs simple and straightforward. By using the
COM mapping software on the NPort Device server, the customer
can easily map up to 256 COM ports, which connect to the
IEDs within seconds.

Benefits:
-
Dramatically reduce downtime cost with fast ring recovery
- Expand
remote control capability with COM mapping software
- Increase
system reliability with long MTBF and high warranty period
-
Reduce technician support cost by using easy configuration
software
-
Streamline management platform and reduce maintenance
cost
